Nik West Band, Dennis Chambers & Tommy Campbell
- 2019. June 16. Sunday 20:00 - Barlangszínház
A fantastic and unique musical experience: Nik West Band, Dennis Chambers and Tommy Campbell plays together, a jazz-historical rarity, since the two drum kings of jazz play together for the first time on a stage.
"The Female Lenny Kravitz", NIK WEST, is a world famous vocalist, songwriter, and bassist with credits that include work with Quincy Jones Productions, Prince, Glee, and American Idol. Nik has also established an impressive solo career with sold out tours spanning from Japan to Australia to Europe. Her videos have racked up over 40 million views across Facebook and YouTube. She has branded herself as an innovator in the industry and all as an independent artist. And she is going to be here in SopronDrum Festival giving an amazing concert with her band and the two legendary jazz percussionist Dennis Chambers and Tommy Campbell.
For those who have never experienced Tommy Campbell live, it is a treat not to miss! His work is mind-boggling, for those with the ear to hear for the subtlety of his work in the pocket. Although Tommy has the technique to hang with the most flashy drummers on the planet, he chooses taste over waste, using his talent to embellish and dimensionalize the music with tone and nuance, rather than overpowering it with shine.
After completing the Academy of Music, he became a member of Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra and played with legendary drummers like Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Max Roach, Art Blakey and Tony Williams. He has performed and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, John McLaughlin, The Manhattan Transfer Orchestra, Kevin Eubanks, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Jordan, Tania Maria and Gary Burton.
„Campbell’s dedication to growing the legacy of Jazz is not limited to the stage. He has created Stirling Studios, to produce music that can dip deep in the roots of jazz and flip the switch for the upcoming young listeners and performers, and to train carefully selected handful of young, talented protégées to learn the essence of drumming and music from this contemporary master.”
Dennis Chambers is an American drummer who has recorded and performed with John Scofield, George Duke, Brecker Brothers, Santana, Parliament/ Funkadelic, John McLaughlin, Niacin, Mike Stern, CAB, Greg Howe, and many others. Despite a lack of formal training, Chambers has become well known among drummers for his technique and speed. Chambers is particularly regarded for his ability to play "in the pocket" but can also stretch very far out of the pocket which is also a hallmark of his technique. Chambers exhibits a powerful style that is technically proficient, yet highly musical and groove-oriented. He can play in a wide variety of musical genres, but is perhaps most notable for his jazz-fusion, funk, and Latin music playing. He is mostly known for his fast hands and triplets on the bass drum. He has helped many young drummers, the most prominent being Tony Royster, Jr.
A colleague of him the Grammy awarded Viktor Wooten says about him: Dennis is a word class musician. He has his own sound and he is a musical leader. People play their instruments differently after listening to him play. He has made me a better musician. Playing with him is amazing because its rhythm is like no other. That's why everyone wants him in his band. And if he knows he can handle it, he will expand his limits”
