Puccini 100 – Picnic 35

Nessun dorma in the Cave Theatre

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic and the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, an international gala concert will take place on the 19th of August at the Fertőrákos Cave Theatre. The festival orchestra, with its sixty musicians from Sopron and Sopron's partner cities (Bolzano, Kempten and Eisenstadt), cooperates with prestigious opera singers to recall the most popular and heartfelt moments of La Bohème, Turandot and Manon Lescaut.

The Bergamo-born soprano, Francesca Tiburzi is a member of the Dresden Semperoper, where she presented several Puccini characters under the direction of Christian Thielemann. At the concert in August, she will perform well-known cuts from La Bohème as Mimi and Gianni Schicchi as Lauretta.

Her partner will be the young South Korean tenor, Sungho Kim, who also regularly returns as a guest to several renowned opera houses in Germany so as in England. He is a member of the opera house in Dortmund. He performed at the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels and won the BBC World Opera Singing Championships in England in 2023. As a grand finale at the well-planned gala concert, Turandot's aria, known by all music and football fanatics with the popular beginning "Nessun dorma" (and with the ending "Vincero!"), will also be experienced.

In the spirit of the Pan-European Picnic, Beethoven's Fidelio Overture and Kodály's Hary Suite will be performed in the first half of the concert. The richly presented production with an international cast will be one of the most powerful events of the Cave Theatre's season. Limited number of tickets can be purchased online or at the well-known ticket-offices.
